Don’t Hide News to Keep Trump and the Trumpets From Seeing It

Self censoring your social media posts to keep “inconvenient” stories out of the hands of Trump supporters who might use them against us is an exercise in futility.

To defeat Trump, we need to know the whole story. We also need to hold true to our values.

Sadly, these days many people get all of their news from the Internet. Sadder still, many only read news stories after being directed to them by their Facebook friends. Because of this, I take great care when posting a news link on Facebook to make sure I’m linking to the best source I can find.

I also take great care to make sure I’m not linking to stories with exaggerated importance — the type of story that makes a mountain out of something rather meaningless that Trump and his minions has done or said that really doesn’t matter. Desperate or greedy websites publish plenty of this type of story as clickbait, eliciting a knee jerk reaction from us. We Trump opponents can be easily seduced by those who flatter us by pointing out how smart we are.

The Day They Took the Gai Out of Paree

Peace For ParisAll I know for sure right now is that it’s not a good day to be a Parisian.

As I write this, Paris is under siege. Currently, the confused reports from the media are putting the death toll at “over 100,” a figure that’s “sure to rise” in this organized campaign of bombings, shootings and hostage taking. That this is a terrorist attack is abundantly clear. What isn’t clear is who is behind it. The smart money says Al Qaeda, a group that we’ve been told, until today, has been made ineffective. (Editor’s note: This morning the Islamic State took credit for the attacks.)

The attack is a surprise to no one. As much as our leaders like to swagger and brag about the good job they’ve done thwarting all manner of planned attacks in the past, we know that the truth is that they have been lucky. No matter how many times you catch groups planning on blowing up cars in Times Square or launching a bloody attack on transit systems, someone is eventually bound to stay off the radar and be successful. It’s happened before in Paris, not to mention Boston, Mumbai and Spain — which is where it gets our attention and stokes our fears. When it happens in places like Baghdad, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon — which is all the time — we ignore the bloodshed and suffering because the victims probably deserve it for being poor and third world.

The Tea Party’s Feudal Lord

It boggles my mind how the tea baggers can get it so wrong.

I think most Tea Party folks probably trace their ancestry back to Europe. Most probably they imagine they originally hail from England, since once upon a time Merry Olde was considered to be our “mother country.”

Assange on the Run: Going Nowhere for Now

Assange now has help, but seemingly not enough.

He’s surrounded by hostile Brits and a government threatening to storm the Ecuadoran embassy where he’s holed up. Ecuador’s government has granted him political asylum and is calling the Brits’ bluff, pointedly reminding them they’re not a colony and haven’t been for quite a long time.

If he does manage to escape and get his feet safely planted on Ecuadoran soil, he has a good chance of being able to eventually return home to Australia, where he has a strong support base.

For now, the Brits are unlikely to follow through on their threatened raid; that would set a dangerous precident. Ernest A. Canning, writing as a guest on The Brad Blog, explained the danger the threat exposes:

Revolution Hits Europe – Spain

Editor’s note: Evidently the powers that be are trying to keep this on the down low, but people in Spain have been taking to the…

“The man who speaks of the enemy is the enemy himself.”—Bertholt Brecht.

“There is nothing more unequal than the equal treatment of unequal people.” – Thomas Jefferson

We live in a world that runs on a war based economy. Wars create jobs. When we have peace people find jobs scarce.

I first discovered this several years ago when a man at one of my screenings of Leni Riefenstahl’s film, Triumph of the Will, after hearing me speak, gave me a copy of Jerry Mander’s book, Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television.
